Howdy Pathfinders,
It’s nice we’re getting a break in the warm summer weather and settling into fall. Here at the farm, we’re excited to fire up the fire pits and hang out outside. We’re starting Fire Pit Fridays Sep 23, 2022 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. We’ll have a community fire pit near the cocktail bar. If you’d like to reserve a private fire pit for your friends and family call us at 301-799-4455 and we’ll take your reservation and $50 reservation fee over the phone. Feel free to bring a picnic dinner or order take-out from Boonsboro. Don’t worry, if you make a reservation and there’s wet weather we’ll gladly refund your reservation fee.
Things are shaping up around the farm for fall. Farmer Lorn got the hay cut for us and we’ve stored 26 big round bales in the barn to feed livestock through the winter. We’ve got up some new fencing in the northern part of the farm and our 15 hens are free ranging eating up the bugs and giving us eggs each day. Down by the creek purple wildflowers are growing and birds, bees, and butterflies flit around. In the barnyard, we added 4 new young steers and they’re enjoying their daily ration of corn whiskey squeezings. Wednesday we had one steer escape during feeding time, but after a few minutes of excitement, he was herded back into the barnyard. We have two new barn cats, Cowboy and Cowgirl helping keep the mice out of the barn.
We were happy to host our friends from Boonsboro last week for an Economic Development Commission networking meeting. Perhaps the best part was the dinner from Fireside Pizza (the cocktails hit the spot too!).
Our beautiful Bloody Butcher Red Corn ears are starting to dry down on the stalks. The kernels are beginning to dent and the stalks are yellowing. We’re working hard to clean out the grain bin in preparation for this year’s harvest.
Thursday, September 22, and October 6 we’ll be at the Middletown Farmers Market. We look forward to meeting our neighbors over the mountain!
This weekend you can find us on Friday night here at the farm for Firepit Friday.
Natalie and Pappy will be up at Fort Ritchie for the Friday Night Farmers Market 4:00-8:00 pm
Saturday morning Dani will be at the Myersville Farmers Market from 9-noon
Saturday Stacy will be at the Frederick Farmers Market from 10:00 am-1:00 pm
We’re looking for other fall and winter events and festivals to share sips of moonshine at so let us know if there’s something fun we should attend.
