Dear Pathfinders,

We’ve been busy all winter mashing, fermenting, and distilling whiskey. Back in February, we had a great time at Groundhog Day in Boonsboro and it reminded us how much fun it is slingin’ sips of moonshine at our weekly farmer’s markets. It’s nice that the weather is warming up and soon it’ll be spring planting and outdoor farmers market season again. Look at those steaks! They were from one of our custom quarters. You can order from our online shop.

Whiskey Finished Beef

We feed the spent mash to the beef cattle at our farm, a process we call “Whiskey Finished.” Finishing cattle on used distiller’s grain keeps the waste product from distilling out of the landfill and makes an excellent nutrition source because it’s high in protein. Our beef herd has continual access to pasture and hay and is supplemented with distillers’ grain, spent stillage, and corn. The result is a well-marbled and flavorful meat that’s great for grilling, roasting, and smoking.

PathfinderFarm Distillery Whiskey Finished beef is currently available for purchase as 40lb butcher boxes or by the quarter, half, or whole.

Our 40lb butcher box includes:
Steak: 8-9 lbs
Steakums, stew meat, and cube steak: 2-4 lbs
Roasts: 8-9 lbs
Ground Beef: 21-22 lbs

Retail pricing by the cut at the farmers market would be around $498 by Uncle Nate’s calculations and by buying in bulk you can save $100. Each butcher box is available for $395 with on-farm pickup.

A quarter of beef costs $4.45/lb hanging weight (weight after butchering) and yields around 100 lbs of finished cuts. The final cost depends on the weight of the animal. We have 3 quarters available in the near future so reserve yours today on our website or call the farm at 301-799-4455.

Feeding spent stillage to our Whiskey Finished Beef. Don’t worry the alcohol is boiled away for you to enjoy. Our cows don’t get drunk.

Rye Moonshine Release

Saturday, March 18, Dani shared sips of our Rye Moonshine with the public for the first time at the final Myersville Farmers Market of the winter season from 9 am-noon.

You can try our newest flavor is available, Rye Moonshine by making an appointment online and stopping by the farm! We grew some rye on the farm last year and mashed up a great-tasting rye whiskey that’s 57% rye and 43% bloody butcher corn. The resulting shine is nearly 100 proof. There are only 113 bottles available, so try some and take them home starting Saturday at the Myersville Farmers Market. Bottles will be available for on-farm pickup beginning March 20. Each 375 ml bottle is $25 including the tax.

Do you love moonshine, cocktails, and good farm life as much as we do? Then join our team at Pathfinder Farm Distillery. We’re hiring ‘Shine Slingers to make cocktails, pour samples and sell bottles at the farm, festivals, and farmer’s markets.

The ideal applicant is 21 or over, outgoing, loves PathfinderFarm Moonshine, is available for weekly markets or the weekends, can lift 35 lbs, and has safe alcohol service training. If you don’t have safe alcohol service training we’ll help get you trained up and teach you our simple cocktail recipes. Shine slinger’s pay starts at $12.50/hr plus tips from events or a commission on sales. We offer an employee discount and you can help out around the farm too! One market averages 4.5 hours of work.

Call the farm at 301-799-4455 to introduce yourself and send a resume to distillery@pathfinder.farm.

Thanks for checking our our updates from the farm. We can’t wait to see you back at Pathfinder Farm Distillery or one of our local farmer’s markets or events.

With Love and Kindness (just like it says on the back of every bottle),

Uncle Nate and Aunt Natalie and the rest of the Kraft Family
